Q: Whats the difference between coaching and counselling or psychology?

A: Many people think of counselling or psychology when first presented with the concept of coaching.  It is very important to make the distinction between the two.  Counselling/Psychology tends to focus on diagnostic evaluations (often for behavioral and emotional problems) which leads to advice provided by the counsellor/psychologist.  Coaching creates a space for open conversation in which the coach supports the client in developing an action plan that is right for him/her.  An experienced coach works with the client to develop his/her own clear vision of success and supports the client in achieving excellence.  Coaching focuses in the present and how to bring thoughts into action.

A: A wise coach of mine provided me with this simple explanation that I believe really sums it all up.  A psychologist supports you in healing the pain of the past, a coach supports you in living your dreams today and into the future.

Q: What is the format of a typical coaching session?
A: Coaching sessions can be held in many different formats.  Most typically, coaching sessions are performed with one individual and are held via phone (in person coaching can be arranged per request if practical).  Coaching sessions are either 45 minutes or 60 minutes in length, and can be held once per week to once per month.  A coaching session requires a distraction free setting for optimal results.  Its my pleasure to work with clients to define a coaching schedule and format that works best for them.
Q: What's better, in person coaching or over the phone coaching?
A: No formal results oriented study has been published on the effectiveness of telephone based coaching versus in person coaching, however there is plenty of anecdotal evidence.  In general, telephone coaching tends to allow for a very deep connection with clients.  Most likely, this is because the environment is distraction free (ie: did not fight traffic for 1/2 hour getting to the office), and perhaps the relative sense of anonymity allows the client to open up to deeper levels of discussion.  This medium also tends to work well when the client has access to email and internet based technologies.  While in person coaching has advantages such as being able to develop physical materials together, it does not necessarily follow that there are significant advantages to this format.
Q: How much will coaching cost me?
A: The Wellness Coach first and foremost is interested in your success.  Because of this I highly recommend signing up for a minimum of six coaching sessions, however no formal contract is required for your participation.  While a single session can be very useful, lasting results and amazing achievements will come to fruition when working with your coach for an elongated period.  The Wellness Coach charges $75 per coaching hour or $60 per 45 minutes when working with individuals (prices for business services vary depending on service performed).  I offer an initial 1/2 hour consultation and coaching session for free just to see if coaching is right for you and we are a good match.
Q: I really want coaching, but with my current expenses, it may be tough to afford.  Are there any options for me ?
A: I truly believe that coaching should not be a privilege to only those of large financial means.  Coaching is such a powerful and wondeful tool that I would like to spread this gift to all those that are interested.  If you are in a situation of financial hardship, but you would still like to pursue coaching, please
contact me and it is very possible that we can work together to make our services affordable and rewarding.  When evaluating these cases, I appreciate and trust in your honesty and truthfulness.
